Warmth + protection + safety in case I fall into the water and lose consciousness
Typical solutions: The airbag deploys, and the life jacket is cold and bulky.
My solution: Felix Bühler Lola Winter Vest + Bodyfit Floatation Collar
INSTRUCTIONS:
Materials:
1. Felix Bühler Lola Winter Riding Vest
2. Bodyfit floating collar with mouth valve
3. Approx. 30 cm of silicone tubing that fits the valve
4. Seam ripper
Step 1: Prepare the vest
Open one of the side pockets. Carefully unpick the inner lining of the side pocket about 10 cm.
Step 2: Insert the Bodyfit
IMPORTANT: DO NOT inflate the Bodyfit collar YET.
Push the deflated collar inside through the opening in the inner lining.
Position it inside the thick collar so that both ends are of equal length and lie evenly across the front of the chest.
Step 3: Extend the valve
Extend the valve with the silicone tube.
Stow the tube and valve in the side pocket.
Step 4: Inflate the flotation collar before riding; to do so,
open the side pocket. Pull out the tube.
Open the valve and inflate with 4 breaths = approx. 8 liters of air.
Close the valve. Stow the tube away again. Close the zipper. Done.
You can’t see anything from the outside. It looks like a normal, thick winter vest.
WHY THIS IS SO GOOD:
- Doesn’t get in the way while riding. The inflated collar even supports your helmet and head.
- Stays inflated for 1 week
No need to reinflate
- Instant safety: It’s already inflated -> if you fall or lose consciousness in the water, you’ll immediately end up in a safe supine position
- Passed practical test: Jump from 3 meters into deep water -> immediately surfaced in a supine position
