Original McClellan saddle, for donkeys, mules and small horses! - This is a real rarity: an original McClellan saddle - the last one to be made in Europe! It was built in the Czech Republic in 2021 and we bought it new from "Eselreich" in Austria for our donkey mare. It is being sold in very good used condition with original lambskin, stirrups, belly girth and saddle pad.
The McClellan was designed in the 1850s by the American officer of the same name for the US cavalry and mounted police, not exclusively for donkeys, but also for mules, hinnies and relatively small horses or ponies. It actually fits most large donkeys and rather narrow riders. It is still used in military ceremonies in the USA today.
It is leather-covered and due to its construction (there is a "hole" in the seat) it is light, comfortable and yet extremely stable. It can be used both as a pack saddle and a riding saddle. Dimensions: see photos.
