Eldur is mainly ridden cross-country by my 15-year-old daughter. He is completely road-safe and goes out not only in a group but also on his own. My daughter rides him bareback; in the arena, they also tölt with a neck ring. My young son, who is of preschool age, can also tölt him in the riding arena. You can simply hop on and start riding even after a break of several weeks. If he gets spooked, he might flinch briefly, glance around for a moment, and then just keep going. This subsides when he is exercised regularly. Eldur would also be suitable as a therapy horse, but we’re looking for the right person for him—preferably a teenager—who’s eager to spend plenty of time with him in a variety of activities. He’s simply been neglected here for a long time, and he’s too young for that.
He’s familiar with ground work, free work, and a bit of classical dressage. He also enjoys jumping over small obstacles and is up for just about any kind of fun.
Within the herd, he tends to be higher in the pecking order, but he’s social, very people-oriented, curious, and open-minded.
He’s currently barefoot but is also used to full shoeing. He behaves well at the vet and with the farrier.
Vaccinated against tetanus, dewormed 3 times a year, tolerates hay and haylage. No known illnesses.
He’ll only go to someone with whom we feel there’s just a natural fit. We’d like him to be with other Icelandic horses and have as much space as possible in an open stable.
