A special gelding is looking for the place of his heart - Although it’s not an easy decision for me, I’ve decided to find a new home for my Hugo, where he can continue to lead a happy and fulfilling life.
About Hugo: * Born: May 3, 2011 * Approx. 158 cm tall * Hungarian Warmblood / Arabian * Black/Bay
Hugo is an incredibly sweet and honest guy to be around. He’s people-oriented, cooperates well, and shows his best side in everyday life. He is currently stabled in an open barn with two mares, which works very well. Within the herd, he ranks high to mid-level, but is never unfair or mean to other horses.
Training & Work: ———————————
Hugo was originally trained in the English style; I then switched him to Western riding and ride him recreationally, which is exactly what he enjoys most. He is not a beginner’s horse but needs an experienced, confident rider who knows what they’re doing and can give him clear aids. We used to love trail riding; he’s very familiar with it, but he’s a bit out of practice right now. He does groundwork, lunging, and circus tricks very well. For example, he can do the Spanish salute; we’ve started working on the Spanish walk (not quite mastered yet), as well as “smiling” and “giving kisses.” He really enjoys learning new tricks and picks them up incredibly fast.
Hugo is in full training and is regularly worked in the field, on the ground, and under saddle.
He was trained according to the principles of the Parelli method. We have already attended a course and received regular lessons from an instructor. I would place him between Level 2 and 3. He’s also great at free work; he really enjoys it and responds very sensitively to body language. Overall, he works attentively and with motivation, and is a real joy to work with.
Cross-country & Transport: ———————————
He loves going out on trail rides, both alone and in a group. He is familiar with water crossings and swimming. When it comes to loading into the trailer, he currently does not simply step in on his own. With calmness, patience, and lateral guidance, it can work; otherwise, he can also be sedated. Once he is in the trailer, he is calm and well-behaved. Getting him to enter the trailer should be practiced further with a trainer if necessary, as he used to enter freely without any problems.
Health: ———————
Hugo is regularly vaccinated, and his teeth have always been cared for. The farrier comes every 6 weeks; he is currently shod in the front, though shoeing the rear is also possible. He behaves well with the farrier.
He has incidental findings that do not limit him and for which he has never shown any pain:
* Front navicular syndrome (treated once, symptom-free since then) * Mild osteoarthritis (right front leg) with no clinical significance
These were diagnosed several years ago and have been unremarkable since then.
Feeding: ——————
He is a light eater. With sufficient exercise and high-quality hay, open-stall housing with continuous hay access is possible. Currently, he receives hay twice daily along with concentrated feed.
Desired placement: ————————
I am looking for a loving forever home for Hugo in an open stable with access to a herd. This is simply the best living arrangement for him. Keeping him solely in a stall with little access to the outdoors is out of the question for me.
Other: ——————
* No bad habits such as bucking or rearing * Trial rides available (€30, will be credited toward purchase) * Accessories are available for purchase * Horse passport available
It is particularly important to me that Hugo finds a home where he will continue to be well cared for, get regular exercise, and simply be allowed to be a horse.
If you are seriously interested, I would appreciate hearing from you.
