12-year-old Thoroughbred mare is looking for her owner - Due to my lack of time, I’m looking for a new, supportive home for Franzy.
She’s currently in our open stable as part of a mixed herd and has a low status within the herd. I’m offering her as a green horse or one that’s been lunged, since she was last ridden properly 6 years ago and someone last rode her just under a year ago. She’s very calm and level-headed. Groundwork, such as lunging, was done irregularly.
On walks, she walks attentively alongside, but likes to pick up the pace on the way back. She’s easy to handle and clear-headed—but she’s not a horse for beginners.
She shows that she wants to work, and unfortunately, I can’t offer her that. In everyday situations, she is curious, calm, and seeks human companionship. Franzy is familiar with tractors, cars, trucks, bicycles, dogs, cats, and the like, and has shown no hesitation around them so far. She is cautious around new things but not fearful.
She currently wears front shoes because, typical of a Thoroughbred, she has flat hooves and is sensitive on her feet. X-rays of her front hooves were taken in November 2024 before she was shoed. These revealed an incidental finding of a chip on the front of her right hoof joint—so far, this has not caused any problems. I’d be happy to send the images.
One peculiarity is that she likes to loosen her hyoid bone herself, contorting her face in the process. This was evaluated by a veterinarian and deemed harmless by osteopaths and physical therapists.
She had two foals in 2019/2020 with her previous owner in Ireland and is a wonderful broodmare. Given her pedigree, Franzy would therefore also be of interest for breeding or improving the bloodline.
Upon request, Franzy can be sold with her tack, and I would like to include a right of first refusal in the contract. The price is entirely negotiable.
